REPORT OF WEBINAR ORGANISED FOR COREN STAFF ON THE OUTCOME BASED EDUCATION (OBE) ON 10TH MAY, 2021.
1. Introduction
The Registry organized a Webinar on the Outcome Based Education for COREN Staff on the 10th of May, 2021 titled “Coordination, Monitoring, and Evaluation of OBE Implementation” to sensitize staff on the need for OBE and the roles expected of them in OBE implementation.
2. Attendance at the Webinar
About One hundred and eighty (180) persons registered online for the Webinar with One hundred and sixty-nine (169) participants in attendance.
The webinar commenced at about 10:20 a.m with the Chairman of the Education and Training Committee, Engr. Prof. S.Z Abubakar, FNSE, presiding over the meeting. In his Opening remarks, he welcomed the President of COREN, Engr. A. A. Rabiu, FNSE, the Registrar, Engr. Prof. Joseph Odigure, the Resource Persons, Engr. Prof. Baba El-Yakubu and Engr. (Dr.) EyitayoAfolabi as well as the entire staff of COREN to the workshop.
3. Introductory Remarks by the Registrar
The Registrar said that the webinar was specifically organised to ensure that members of staff of COREN understand the meaning of OBE and to be able to direct clients properly on any enquiry on OBE in Engineering. He urged all members of staff to take the training seriously to enhance the actualisation of the objectives of OBE and its implementation in Engineering programmes in Nigerian Universities.
4. Key Note Address by the President
The President, Engr. A.A Rabiu, FNSE, appreciated the organizers of the Webinar. He made a brief speech on COREN mandate and the pursuit for the mobility of Nigerian Engineering graduates across the globe. He informed participants that, the mobility of Nigerian Engineers internationally, necessitated COREN’s application for Membership of Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) in November, 2015, and was accepted in 2016. COREN made further move in obtaining the signatory status of the Washington Accord (W.A) under the International Engineering Alliance (IEA), which required the Outcome Based Education and OBE Accreditation system; Hence, the continuous pursuit by COREN for the Outcome Based Education implementation in Engineering Programmes in Nigerian Universities. He urged staff to key-in into the same objective by sensitizing others after the training.

6. COREN Staff core duties during Accreditation
Some of the highlights of the core duties of COREN staff during accreditation visitation include:
- Providing all secretarial support for the success of the accreditation exercise.
- Coordinating meetings with the team leaders, resource persons and the Institution.
- Compilation of the report on the last day of the visitation for submission to COREN.
- Providing necessary policy updates to the visiting team when and where required.

After the presentation, there were questions and comments by participants and they were all attended to by the Resource Persons.
