In a landmark move to strengthen regulation and foster greater collaboration in Nigeria’s construction and
built environment sector, three major regulatory bodies The Council for the Regulation of Engineering
in Nigeria (COREN), The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON), and The Council of Mining
Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG)on Thursday in Abuja signed a tripartite Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) aimed at deepening cooperation, synergy, and regulatory effectiveness.
The MoU was formally signed by Engr. Prof. Sadiq Z. Abubakar, FNSE, FAEng, Chairman of COREN Council;
Chairman of CORBON, Engr. Bldr. Samson Ameh Opaluwah, PhD, FNIOB, FNIM, FAEng and the Registrar/CEO

visit to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC). Prof Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu,
and his management team to strengthen collaboration on the ongoing joint accreditation process for
engineering programmes in Nigerian universities.

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is a statutory body set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the mandate to regulate the practice of Engineering in all aspects and ramifications. It was established by Decree 55 of 1970, amended by Decree 27 of 1992 and now, Engineers (Registration, etc.) Act CAP E 11, 2004 which was further amended by the Engineers (Registration, etc.) (Amendment)Act
NO 3, 2018.
