Outcome Based Education (OBE)
Accreditation Visit to Nile University, Abuja
The visitation team appointed by the Engineering Accreditation Committee (EAC) of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) conducted a three-day accreditation visit to Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja to evaluate the Undergraduate Programme of Electrical Electronic Engineering from 6th – 8th February 2023. A pre-accreditation visit meeting was held on Monday, 6th February 2023 to exchange findings of the Programme Evaluation with the faculty members based on the review of the Self‐Study Report (SSR) of the program submitted by the institution.
During the pre-accreditation visit meeting, lists of queries were consolidated to seek further
clarification and understanding of the program. Also based on the study of SSR, <some aspects
specifically related to OBE and CQI implementations were identified as requiring detailed study
of the related documents for evidences>. Subsequently, specific documents/pieces of evidence
to be examined during the visit were also indicated. Based on these discussions, the schedule of
activities for the conduct of the second-day visit was slightly modified and communicated to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Nile University of Nigeria, Abuja who is the focal person appointed by the Institution for the conduct of the accreditation.
The accreditation team on arrival to the campus of the University paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dilli Dogo, who was ably represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Dileep Kumar Mohanachandran. He welcomed the team members who gave a briefing on the institution’s level of readiness for the accreditation visit. The meeting ended with a group photograph.
The program evaluators then proceeded to visit the physical facilities for the program, such as Classrooms, Conference rooms, Laboratories, Library, Auditorium, Offices, and Various Workshops. Apart from the comprehensive review of documents and pieces of evidence pertaining to various accreditation criteria, the team also held meetings and interviews with stakeholders such as faculty members, technologists, Students, and Administrative Staff members.
The following are highlights of the findings by the Programme Evaluation Team, based on a detailed visit of the facilities and a thorough review of the documents/pieces of evidence about the program:
(a) The depth and breadth required in the curriculum are available regarding the contents and its delivery. Evaluation of students’ academic performances is also at an adequate level however; the mapping of the CLOs with the POs needs proper review.
(b) Quality Management System is in place and is centrally administered by the University.
Procedures and policies for implementing CQI at the course and curriculum levels are in place and being practiced. However, there are weaknesses in defining and implementing CQI at the program level.
Overall, the Programme Evaluation team found some deficiencies regarding compliance to all ten accreditation criteria.
