The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) at its 160th Ordinary Council Meeting held on the 20th of December, 2018 appointed Engr. Prof Joseph O. Odigure as the Registrar of COREN effective March, 2019.
Engr. Prof Joseph O. Odigure takes over from Engr. W. Kamila Maliki FNSE, mni who served two term as Registrar of COREN from March 2013- March 2019.
Until his appointment as the Registrar of COREN, Engr. Prof Joseph O. Odigure was a Lecturer at the Federal University of Technology Minna (Professor Chemical Engineering Department).
Engr. Prof Joseph Odigure who was born on 2nd October, 1959 at Onitsha attended the Belarus National University of Technology, Minsk, Belarus from where he obtained M.Sc with Distinction in Chemical Technology of Binding Materials and refractories, non-metallic compounds, 1986 as the best graduating student and PhD, Technical Sciences, 1990. He is a Registered Engineer, and a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials as well as a Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering.
He was a member of Covenant University Ota, Vision 10, 2022 (1 of the 10 global Universities by 2022) and a forerunner of Open Distance and e learning (CODeL) Programme in Nigeria.
His working career started at the Federal University of Technology, Minna where he did his one year compulsory National Youth Service in 1990 and was later employed as lecturer 1 in 1991 rising to the rank of Professor of Chemical Engineering Department in the same University.
Engr. Prof Joseph Odigure is an administrator of repute and has served in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private universities and various National and International Committees. He was twice elected the Dean of School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the Foundation Coordinator/Dean, School of Information and Communication Technology, Foundation Director, Centre for Open Distance and eLearning, all at Federal University of Technology, Minna. He is the recipient of various local and international awards:
He has over 100 authored and co-authored patents, research journal articles, books and conferences proceedings and serves as referee to various local and international journals. He is widely cited in his area of research.
He is married with four children. He is a team player with strong global vision on engineering regulations, capacity building and maintaining of local and international best practices: a necessity for informed and effective regulation of engineering in a 21st century.
Following the appointment of the new Registrar Engr. Prof Joseph O. Odigure, the Management of COREN in its usual manner organized an exit Retreat with both the outgoing and incoming Registrars to ensure a smooth transition of power and to familiarize the Management of COREN with the plans and programme of the new Registrar.
