Engr. Prof. Joseph Obofoni Odigure was born on 2nd October 1959. He had his Primary education at St. John Primary School, Sabongida Ora and Secondary education at Holy Trinity Grammar School, Sabongida Ora, Edo State before proceeding to the Belarus National University of Technology, Minsk, Belarus from where he obtained M.Sc with Distinction in Chemical Technology of Binding Materials and refractories, non-metallic compounds, 1986 as the best graduating student and Ph.D., Technical Sciences, 1990. He did the NYSC at and was employed thereafter as Lecturer 1 by the Federal University of Technology, Minna in 1990 and 1991 respectively. He was promoted to the rank of Professor of Chemical Engineering Department on 1st October 2002.
Until his appointment as the Registrar, he had been involved in COREN activities in all ramifications for about nine (9) years. During these periods, he served as Vice President/member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and as member/Chairman of various Committees. His most recently appointments include Chairman, the Sub Committee on the production of Guideline Document for the Outcome-Based Engineering Workshop and Review of Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard for Undergraduate programmes in Nigerian Universities May 2017, member, Special Cases Committee and the Chairman, The Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Technical Committee on Standardisation and Quality Assurance in Building and Construction Industry as Representative of COREN, 2018.
He is an administrator of repute having served in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private Universities and various national and International Committees. He was twice elected the Dean of School of Engineering and Engineering Technology, the Foundation Coordinator/Dean, School of Information and Communication Technology, Foundation Director, Centre for Open Distance and eLearning, all at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. He is the recipient of various local and international awards: Honorary Fellow, Australian Institute of High Energetic Materials, Fellow, Nigeria Association of Technologist Engineers among others. He has over 100 authored and co-authored patents, research journal articles, books and conferences proceedings and serves as a referee to various local and international journals. He is widely cited in his area of research.
He believes that regulatory activities must be multidisciplinary in content to be proactive and innovative and to remain relevant. He has by learning, association and exposure recognized the need and acquired strong leadership skills to drive, inspire and sustain globally competitive regulatory standards in engineering education and practices. He is a team player with a strong global vision on engineering regulations, capacity building and maintaining of local and international best practices: a necessity for informed and effective regulation of engineering in the 21st century.
